Has anyone heard of a game using a knife Mumbly called chips, and how do I play?

Summer day in a shady nook, a close-cropped Green sod, two or three boys and one jack-knife are the things needed for a quiet game Mumbly Peg [mumbley or wedge, mumblety peg, mumble peg, mumble peg at, mumbypeg or mumble peg in December]. The first player takes the knife and passes through most part of the game, he may without error. Second should in turn do the same. Last to perform all of the difficult feats was beaten, and to pull a peg, two inches long from the ground with his teeth. Winner drives peg with a knife, a hammer handle, to provide them, under the rules of the game, three hit with eyes open, and three with eyes closed. This usually peg driven out of sight in the sod, and in this case the boy shouting: "Root! Root! "As a player beaten by Only teeth literally roots while with a dirty face and broad smile, he lifts his head, showing a wedge between his teeth. From the penalty loser pay comes Mumbly name or Mumbelty-rate. exploits First: hold the right fist with his back to land and a jack knife with a blade designed right resting on top of closed toe (Fig. 282). Hand turned right, up and over, describing a semicircle, so that the knife falls point down and chairs or should I stick in an upright situation on the ground (Fig. 283). If there is space to slip two fingers located one above the other, under the handle of the sword, and if the place of the sword is hidden in the ground, it counts for a just stick or throw. Second: The next proposal is the same as that just described, but performed with the left hand. Third: Take the tip of the blade between the first and second finger of right hand and boost it with an idiot, so that the knife after turning around in the air and hit point in the ground (Fig. 284). Fig. 284. Third Feat. Fourth: Do the same with your left hand. Fifth: Keep sword in the third and fourth position and brought a hand to his chest so that the knife handle touch the left ear. Take hold of the right ear with the left hand and push the knife so that it appears once or twice in the air and hit the points to the ground (Fig. 285). Fig. 285. Fifth Feat. Sixth: Do the same with your left hand. Seventh: There are still held the knife in the same way to handle to the nose and push it through the air in so it will remain in the ground (Fig. 286). Fig. 286. Seventh Feat. Eight: Do the same with the handle of the right eye. Ninth: Repeat with the left handle eye. Tenth: Insert tip of the blade on top of the head. Hold it in place with a pointer and push down to send it rolling down to earth when you need to stay point with the blade in the ground (Fig. 287). Fig. 287 Ten Feat. Eleventh to Fifteenth: Hold left hand with fingers pointing upwards, and, starting with your thumb, insert the point of a knife finger, as described above and forefinger pointer of the right hand end of knife handle. In Motion down, throw revolving blade in the air so that it will glow with a section of sod in the blade (Fig. 288). Fig. 288. Eleventh Feat. Sixteenth to Twentieth: Repeat with right hand to left hand knife-handle. Twenty-first, twenty and second: the same in each knee. Twenty and third: Keep the blade section between first and second finger and taping the forehead, turning the knife back on the head, so that it will remain in the ground behind the player ready the next movement (Fig. 289, dotted lines indicate flight knife). Fig. 289. Twenty and third Feat. Twenty-Four: Twenty and three knife is left in the ground. Then with palm of the hand knife strike deal with clever stroke, which will send a revolving above ground for a yard, more or less, and does so to the land , where it stops. This is called "plowing the field (Fig. 290; dotted lines indicate flight knife). Fig. 290. Plowing the field. Where is missing makes the next player in turn, and when the first line player, it should come to attempt the feat in that he failed to perform last. A good player will sometimes go through almost all twenty and four motions without failing to make "Two fingers" that stick is fair, each time, but it is very unusual for anyone to start the game in one inning. This is a game in twenty-four proposals many guys play with a double number.
